About Computer Security with Forensics, MComp - at Sheffield Hallam University
The growth of the internet has increased the number of online services and transactions. Because of this increase, the threats to confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information have grown. This has led to an increase in demand for IT security experts.
This course gives you a well-rounded education in computing and computer networks with a central focus on security, from a theoretical and a practical viewpoint.
You graduate with a masters degree at the end of four years’ study. This means you have the advantage of the undergraduate fee repayment structure where you don’t start paying back your fees until you are earning above a set limit.
We have been running postgraduate courses in security for several years and we are the only British university approved to deliver the BSI BS7799 lead auditor security training.
During the course, you study security aspects such as - cryptography - data security - hacking defence methods - network firewalls - assessing threats and vulnerabilities - secure programming - information security. There is a shortage of IT professionals with these skills to fulfill the huge demand from industry.
You also study more general computing subjects such as - computer architecture - software engineering - database systems - networking - project management. This gives you a broad range of skills to enhance your employability.
In year three, you can choose to take an added work placement year. We have strong links with a wide selection of employers and industries. These allow you to take advantage of our first class placement opportunities. Employers include - HSBC - Cisco and Fujitsu
