Introduction
An MBA from a reputable institution like Newcastle University will help carry a flag of security to potential employers.
Profile Body
Newcastle University has constantly been one of the top ranking universities in the world, which helped me make my choice. Along with this was the fact that the city of Newcastle upon Tyne seemed an ideal place for a mix of fun and academia. Deemed as one of the most classical cities in Europe with an eclectic mix of history and modern life I was looking forward to an overall cultural and intellectual growth not just in terms of academics.
The place has definitely lived up to all my expectations. It houses more than 40,000 students, hence catering to student needs with great ease. Be it in terms of facilities for further academic purposes and also for cultural broadening of horizons. Starting with the University which has a wide range of clubs and societies for students to take part in and get to meet people from similar and different cultural backgrounds to the various institutions like Tyneside Cinema for movie lovers, the Sage where performances of high calibre tempt music lovers and also a host of nightclubs and pubs for those just looking to boogey the weekend away. When not studying I usually frequent the sports facilities. A game of squash, a round of badminton and even football keep me going through the weekend. Along with this I indulge in my love for movies both commercial and non-mainstream at either The Gate or at Tyneside Cinema. A stroll through the BALTIC helps me catch up with the art scene. A current Andy Warhol exhibition was interesting as well as illuminating as one would have known Warhol only for his kitschy soup drawings.
Being a student city, the place offers a variety of cuisine and most restaurants have deals for students. Some of the ones to be recommended would be the Pizza Hut lunch buffet, check out the buffets in Chinatown and if you are looking for some Spanish head to the quayside for some tapas at El Torero. If you find you've walked yourself all over Newcastle and want something new, take the metro to Tynemouth. Walk to the lighthouse or explore the priory and don't forget to grab a carton of fish and chips. Durham, York and Edinburgh are some of the other cities nearby which warrant a visit. So as you can see there is lots to do here and a single year is never enough.
After my 6 years of work experience, I decided to do an MBA as it would supplement my practical knowledge with the academic know-how giving me a 360 degree view ahead. The Newcastle University MBA, aims to enable learning by creating a real world learning environment, which is coupled with rigorous academic practice and management research. They manage all this in a time span of 12 months, which is ideal for me.
The director on our course promotes an informal and fun atmosphere in the business school. Although we deal with complex problems and keep banging our heads against the wall, we do not forget to have some fun in addition.
My research has also been accepted by the British Academy of Management for a conference in September, 2007. Apparently this is the first time a non-research student's paper has been accepted by the Academy from this University.
One of the biggest surprises in studying at Newcastle was the tremendous support from the faculty. My dissertation and personal tutors were exceptional in going out of their way and reaching out to me. I am sure I speak for others as well, that most of the professors we have interacted with have been most kind and helpful.
An MBA from a reputable institution like Newcastle University, will help carry a flag of security to potential employers. More importantly, the rigorous academic work has enabled students to perform under pressure and since most assignments have been based on group work, my team building and leadership skills have also been polished. |

Introduction
The decision to live and study in the UK was not an easy one for my family and me. However, in my third year here, I can happily say that it has definitely been the right choice. It has allowed me to experience not only British culture but also that of many other countries, through other international students.
Profile Body
The UK offers a lot of flexibility in its well-reputed engineering courses. With a course choice like Chemical Engineering, it was easy to be seduced by UK universities: offering a quality of education easily matching (and often exceeding) that of any other country, along with far better support facilities. Also, the UK seemed culturally closer to home than other foreign countries.
Newcastle is unique as a University city where every amenity is easily accessible in the city centre itself. The University and its Halls of Residence are very conveniently located, with shops only a short walk away. The city itself is extremely vibrant, and the fame of its extremely active nightlife has spread far and wide! I personally feel it is one of the friendliest places I have come across in my experience of the UK (although it may take a while to adapt your hearing to the local accent!).
All the delights the city has to offer would, however, be no good at all if I were unable to afford them! Fortunately, Newcastle has a low cost of living compared to other UK cities, and if you take full advantage of the many student discounts on offer, it's easy to take good care of yourself without spending too much.
Newcastle offered me something of a 'package deal' - a well-reputed university, the course of my choice with the flexibility I wanted, as well as a scholarship to slightly ease the financial load. Also, the School of Chemical Engineering in particular is friendly, approachable, and is staffed by some of the best in the field. Finding all this in one University made the opportunity hard to resist.
The University organizes welcome and orientation events for all International students, which are a great starting point when you are new to the place. The friends I made at these events are some of the closest I have, even though some of them have graduated and gone back to their own countries now. The orientation not only helps you meet people, it also makes you familiar with the many support services on offer, and guides you through the process of settling-in with detailed instructions on everything - from opening a bank account to finding cheap shops!
Other than educational support facilities, there are a wide variety of leisure facilities. The large number of clubs and societies ensures something for everyone and is a great way to meet people. I have been part of the Dance society and have chaired the International Students society - both of which were great experiences and a lot of fun. I also play badminton at the sports centre, and like to pretend that I regularly use the gym! If you find yourself without a partner/team for your particular sport, there are many sports societies you could join.
The decision to live and study in the UK was not an easy one for my family and me. However, in my third year here, I can happily say that it has definitely been the right choice. It has allowed me to experience not only British culture but also that of many other countries, through other international students. My course is everything I wanted it to be, I have been fortunate enough to meet some very nice people, and yes, I have even got used to the weather! |

Introduction
Living and studying in the UK has changed my lifestyle completely, given me a chance to study with students from different parts of the world and moreover has given me complete independence.
Profile Body
I came to the university to pursue my further studies because universities in the UK are recognized worldwide. I chose this University because of the course and its reputation.
Newcastle is a nice city to live in because of the low cost of living and its rich heritage and culture. The people here are really helpful and caring. My first day in Newcastle was quite scary because I didn't know anybody, however the people here helped me out and consequently I am really happy to be living here. Moreover, transportation is not a problem because of the city's fast and reliable metro system. Transportation is also cheaper with a student pass and you can save a lot of money. The city's nightlife is also an added attraction with most of the pubs and clubs open late into the night. Living here is not a problem because you can earn your living easily by working part time -the University's 'jobshop' provides great help in that. The accommodation is cheap.
I attended Orientation Week at the University where I met a lot of people and made new friends. The people were all warm and helpful. The teachers are helpful and are always ready to help you with your problems. Each student has a tutor with whom you can discuss any problems you are facing in adjusting to the new culture. I think this idea is good and really helps the students.
Library and computing facilities at the University could not be better. The flexible opening hours, unlimited Internet access and huge collection of books are some of the features of the service provided. The laboratories are highly equipped with the latest machines and equipment.
Recently I attended a South Asian Students' society meeting at the Union and it gave me a chance to meet other Asian students at the University, the social life at the University is great.
Living and studying in the UK has changed my lifestyle completely, gave me a chance to study with students from different parts of the world and moreover has given me complete independence. |
