Provider Information
Department of Electronic Engineering, Queen Mary Image Queen Mary, University of London is one of the three largest multi-faculty Colleges of the world-famous University of London, along with King's College and UCL. It is unique in being the only one of the central London University of London Colleges to be based on a fully-integrated campus.

The Department of Electronic Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London provides one of the most exciting environments in Europe for postgraduate students who want the best that the contemporary discipline of Electronic Engineering has to offer. The department is closely engaged with developments in the most important industries in the global economy, industries such as communications technology and computing which offer top-flight careers to highly trained graduates at Master's level. There is an acute shortage of highly qualified graduates in these industries, making excellent salaries the norm. This is particularly true in subjects concerned with the knowledge-based economy, such as telecommunications, the Internet and e-commerce.

The Department Offers specialist Master's degrees and Postgraduate diplomas in the following.
*Telecommunications programmes are also available with Business and Law options.
(d) Available to study part time via Distance learning.
(p) Available to study part timein attendance.

A Strong International Research Environment
At Queen Mary we ensure that our programmes are taught by people at the very leading edge of research in their field. Research is organised in three research groups - Antennas, Telecommunications and a new group, Digital Signal Processing and Multimedia that has just been set up by recruiting world-leading staff. However, there is considerable interaction between the groups, which is possible in a medium sized department such as ours.

The international standard and close industrial relevance of Queen Mary's research in Electronic Engineering is reflected in the strong support the Department receives in the form of substantial research grants. The Department attracts large-scale research funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), from the EU and from companies, including Nokia, BT and Bell-labs. Recent and current research grants total over £5.4 million.

One especially exciting international research project in which our Digital Signal Processing Unit is involved is a JISC funded cooperative research project with University of Massachusetts on Online Musical Retrieval and Search (OMRAS) worth in total around $1M. This is part of a large cooperative programme researching the Digital Libraries of the future.

Together the Department and College provide all the facilities necessary to support our students. This includes access to a broad range of books relevant to each of our taught courses, within the college library. There are extensive computer facilities with multiple printers, and access to the Internet. Special items of equipment within the Department include a networking laboratory for undertaking projects relating to Internet protocols, such as routing, in a captive office environment. The Department also subscribes to IEL, the premier worldwide electronic library for all areas of electronic engineering, communications, IT and the Internet.
