University of Greenwich Image The University of Greenwich offers the best of both worlds - city and country. As a student you are on the doorstep of London, but with the cream of Kent - rolling hills, pub-to-pub walks, seaside resorts and historic sites - not far away. The university traces its roots to 1890, and over the years a range of specialist organisations have joined the institution, giving it the diverse strengths it has today in subjects such as architecture, business, computing, engineering and sciences.

The university has three campuses, all housed within buildings of historical importance: Avery Hill and Greenwich in London, and Medway in Kent. The university is proud of its diverse student body. People from more than 140 countries choose to study at Greenwich, part of an international student community of over 4,000.

Academic strengths
One hundred years of innovation, strong links to industry and commerce, complemented by research excellence and an international agenda are what make the University of Greenwich a leading modern university. The university has a resource base of highly qualified staff with wide ranging expertise and significant links with business and industry; this, coupled with over 23,000 students from a variety of backgrounds provides an imaginative and stimulating learning experience for all.

This rich and diverse experience means students are ideally placed to gain the skills and expertise required to respond to the needs of businesses and organisations in any future career. The university's vast portfolio of masters and degree programmes, including combined degrees, allows a wide range of subject options. English language tuition and academic support is provided to all international students whose first language is not English.

Facilities
Students have access to extensive library and computing facilities on each campus, but each has a unique offering of its own. At the Avery Hill Campus is a TV studio with 1000 square feet of floor space, expert media support staff, and a 'virtual bookshop'. The Greenwich Campus offers a 200-PC computing facility and bookshop, as well as a dedicated Language Centre for those studying a foreign language or supplementing their English language skills.

Students at the Medway Campus enjoy the benefit of a recent expansion of facilities including the development of a magnificent learning resource centre. The campus has modern workshops and equipment, including a computer-aided design studio, and training dispensary for pharmacy students. It also has a Centre for Sports and Exercise Science with the latest in 3D movement and force analysis equipment, enabling researchers to help professional athletes improve technique and avoid injury.

The university's Office of Student Affairs on each campus provides a range of services and support, from the time you arrive, to the completion of your studies.
Support services include dyslexia learning support, childcare and nursery services, and disability advice and support.

An orientation and induction programme for international students is also offered at the start of the academic year. For more information, see our website at http://www.gre.ac.uk/students/international

Student life
Activities outside of your academic studies also play an essential part of your student experience. The Students' Union provides access to a range of facilities, services and activities, as well as discounts on a variety of products and services. Free transferable skills training is available to students through the Students' Union BITE scheme (Be Involved To Evolve), to help students learn new skills and improve their job prospects.

University of Greenwich Student
I'm an international student and I thought the induction process was very well organised and thorough. I have been able to arrange part-time work around my studies, which has been very useful.
Cecilia Ogunbenro, BSc Hons Biomedical Science

The best thing about the University of Greenwich was the student lifestyle and the partying! The first year was the best, there was always something happening on campus.
Former student Tracy Watson, BA Hons Childhood Studies

I chose to study at Medway as I live locally and couldn't afford to move away from home. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming and it made me feel at ease, particularly in my first year when I was settling in.
Aaron Glover, BEng Hons Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Former student Tom Avery, BA Hons Primary Education with Mathematics
University of Greenwich Student
I chose to study at Avery Hill as I was living in the local area, so it was really convenient for me. I travelled by bicycle and the journey took about half an hour or so. The buildings and parklands were beautiful, and I particularly liked the Winter Gardens.
Tom Avery

My experience at university has developed my confidence and self belief, as well as my independence.
Olufunke Olajide, BSc Hons Biomedical Science
James Caldon, BSc Hons Sports Science with Tennis Coaching
I live in Merlin halls of residence during the week and at weekends go back home to Essex where I coach tennis. The halls are really friendly and that helped me to settle in. Medway is a good location, nice and quiet, but the entertainment is good too - particularly the pub's Christmas party!
James Caldon

The best thing about being here is the location - it's only a 20-minute drive from home. The student atmosphere is really friendly and welcoming. I've been out of education for some time, but getting back in I have found the university particularly supportive.
Nasim Budaly, Dip HE Adult Nursing
