Xiaoxian Zhu
MA International Trade & Finance
Thanks to a partnership with Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou, China, students can study the MA International Trade & Finance in both China and the UK. This brings a truly international dimension to the course and enables students to benefit from the experience of studying in two nations. Xiaoxian fell in love with Leeds for its beautiful green surroundings and traditional food. It gave her the opportunity to speak to locals and studying in Leeds has helped her to dramatically improve her English language skills.

She enjoyed good relationships with the teaching staff and was invited to a Chinese New Year party at the Queens Hotel in Leeds city centre to celebrate the year of the ox. Xiaoxian not only visited Leeds, but also a number of locations in the UK with her class mates. She says, "I visited a range of cities including Edinburgh, London and Manchester, as well as the Lake District. It was amazing to see different cultures and landscapes. They are memories that I will take back to China."

When asked how the experience of studying in Leeds has changed her, she commented, "I've learnt to be more independent and, since living with my classmates, we have become a little family and made Leeds a home from home." Xiaoxian added, "We give each other support and help each other with our studies. If someone has a problem we all try to solve it." Xiaoxian now intends to take a PhD at Leeds Met.
