East 15 was founded by Margaret Walker in 1961, informed by her experience and work with Joan Littlewood's famed Theatre Workshop. East 15 is one of the few drama schools in the world to have grown out of the work of a professional theatre company, and this relationship with the real world of theatre remains as part of the mission of the School.
